[Book Description]

Signe Brunnstom's astute analysis of muscle activity and her emphasis on palpation of living anatomy and clinical observations are continued in the fifth edition of 『Brunnstrom's Clinical Kinesiology』. Revisions in Chapters 1 to 3, which cover kinematics, kinetics, and muscle physiology and neurophysiology, have been made to clarify concepts. Figures have been added, and material has been reorganized for reader convenience. New material is presented on end-feels of normal passive joint motion and the effects of pressure on tissues. The title of Chapter 4 has been changed to "Muscle Activity and Strength" to better reflect the content. Additional information is presented on isometric, concentric, eccentric, and elastic forces of muscles. Theories on the different myofilament mechanisms for these contractions are discussed. A section on quantitative muscle force testing, reproducibility, and neural adaptation has been added to assist in evaluation of measurements of muscle strength.
